Little Miss Sunshine: a family’s trip across the USA to find out themselves.

 

The film starts with the uncle almost getting killed himself, and going to live with the rest of the family: the parents, the grandfather, the son and the eight-year-old daughter.

 

The father is involved in a kind of project (not very promising) called “The nine steps”, which tries to convert people into winners following nine easy steps.

The grandfather’s problem is the drug: he snorts cocaine.

The daughter is going to enter the final part of a beauty competition, which involves a little show. Thus, she is being trained by the grandfather.

The son, Dwayne, is doing a silence vow (which has lasted for nine months) as his objective is to enter the flying academy as a pilot, and he had decided not to speak until he reached his goal.

 

They all decide to go with the daughter to the beauty contest, and they have to cross all the United States with an old Volkswagen van.

The plot is not simply the trip, but how the protagonists change during it, something you can appreciate by the end of the film.

 

During the trip, things occur which make them think about themselves, and also behave in front of the rest of the family and, generally, the rest of the people.

Even though it could not seem very enthusiastic, the film is joke-packed with lots of funny moments and anecdotes.

I shall not tell the end, so maybe I can encourage you, reader, to watch it, as it is a great film.

 

Finally, I cannot finish this film’s review without mentioning the music. Little Miss Sunshine’s soundtrack is something never heard before. Simply, it is awesome.

 

To sum up, it is a different film, funny, with good soundtrack and which will not leave you the same once you have watched it. It is a worth-watching film which I entirely recommend.
